Search Engine Optimisation
The vast majority of "Organic" Internet traffic originates
from Google, Yahoo and MSN. Getting good listings on these Search Engines
is your priority following the launch of your Website.
The main steps include...
- Research Keywords and Keyphrases
- Optimise Website structure
- Optimise individual Webpages
- Provide good quality Content
Research Keywords and Keyphrases
Keywords and Keyphrases are the search terms you would like your Website to be listed under in Search Engine results. The research involves assessing words and phrases for Relevancy, Popularity and Competiteveness, until a selection of words and phrases are created for each page on your Website.
Optimise Website Structure
Using the list of Keywords and phrases you have selected, the entire structure of your Website needs to be assessed for Context (the meaning associated with a webpage as determined by incoming links and other factors) and "spiderability" (how easy it is for a Search Engine Spider to crawl through the website to index all the content found there.
Optimise individual Webpages
Search Engine Results Pages, or SERPs, actually display the results of individual pages in its Database, not entire Websites. Therefore different webpages are indexed for different search terms. Each page on you Website needs to be optimised according to the subject of that page, not the entire Website.
Provide Quality Content
Search Engines prefer "Fresh and Original" content. They can determine when your website is updated, they can also tell if the text is available on other Websites. They will display newer, unique content in preference to old and replicated.
